From July 12-17, 2026, I went to Central Washington University Jazz Camp in Ellensburg, Washington.

CWU Jazz Camp is a summer jazz program for students entering grades 7-12. The camp is built around jazz theory and arranging, instrument masterclasses, improvisation, ensemble playing, and jazz history.

My favorite part was the free food, it was like a whole buffet. Floor 2 of my dorm was under construction, so me and my friends Tristan, Henry, Gabe, and Quentin played hide and seek through the whole floor and the rooms.

My lips got really tired on the 3rd day, but recovered by the last day. I should have played more before the camp. Our bed and dorm rooms were really nice, super comfy. There was a really nice sunrise from my room.

The week includes placement evaluations, masterclasses by instrument, combos, improv classes, jazz listening, big bands, faculty special-focus sessions, evening activities, jam sessions, recreation and practice time, and a final performance.
