My last e-bike from the “New eBike” post did not go very good. It kept breaking pretty much every time I rode it. We even took it to an e-bike shop, and they said it was not really something they could fix. So I still have that bike, but I do not really use it anymore.

Then I got this Super73 S1 for $950. It looked really cool because it had a white frame, fat tires, a long seat, and a 5000w controller from China. I knew it was not a normal stock Super73, but I thought it could be a good project bike.

But then it broke almost right when I got home. The throttle cable was in a bad spot, and when the handlebars turned all the way, the bars cut the cable. That was pretty annoying because I had just gotten the bike.

To fix it, I ordered four things from Amazon: a 3-pin female waterproof pigtail, a full-twist throttle, adhesive-lined heat shrink, and white 9/16 inch pedals. The throttle and pigtail were for actually fixing it. The heat shrink was so the wires would not look terrible. The pedals were mostly just because white pedals would match the bike better.

I soldered the throttle wires together instead of just twisting them or using tape. I tried to make the wires not all have one huge lump, and then I used heat shrink over them. The biggest thing was rerouting the cable so when the bars turn all the way, it does not get cut again.

I also unsoldered and resoldered the battery connector wire. I moved that wire too, because I did not want it to have the same problem as the throttle. The wiring was kind of sketchy before, so I wanted it to be cleaner and safer.

The bike is still not totally done yet. I need to test it more before I know if it is actually reliable. A 5000w controller sounds cool, but it also means the wiring and brakes and connectors matter a lot more. For now I am just trying to make it work without breaking every time I ride it.
